SunnyHealth AI

Sunny Health AI is an AI-powered navigation platform that guides members to the right in-network care quickly, clearly, and without the runaround. As Fractional Director of Product Design and Lead Designer, I came in before there was a brand, a product, or a funding round, and helped them build from the ground up.
My Role - Director, Research, UX/UI Designer
_Worked closely with CEO on product strategy, branding, and pitch materials through the pre-seed funding process
_ Designed and developed pitch decks, demos, and prototypes to support investor and client presentations
_ Led end-to-end UX/UI design for the product, establishing the visual language and design system from scratch
_ Helped to shape the AI agent experience and member-facing product from zero to funded
Impact
Sunny Health AI secured $2.8 million in pre-seed funding. The demos, prototypes, and pitch decks designed throughout the process played a direct role in securing early client engagement and are helping the product gain traction.
The Approach
_ Assess what existed and build on it, extending the brand foundation into a design system and consistent product voice
_ Design with two very different audiences in mind, the member navigating their care and the employer trying to justify the investment
_ Use demos and prototypes not just as design tools but as the thing that gets people in the room and keeps them interested
Creating the product before there was a product
When there's no product yet, the design has to do a lot of heavy lifting. Early on, the demos and prototypes weren't just design artifacts, they were the product. Polished enough to get investors in the room, clear enough to explain a complex AI platform, and compelling enough to close early clients. That meant working across pitch decks, demo flows, prototypes, and early UX concepts all at once, while the product itself was still taking shape.

Forma, the Sunny Health Design System
Running alongside all of that was the development of Forma, the Sunny Health design system. Having a solid design system in place early meant the product could grow and scale without losing consistency, and gave any future designers a foundation to build from rather than starting from scratch every time.

Designing a holistic approach
The product wasn't just designed as a standalone experience. A big part of the work was figuring out how Sunny could live inside a client's existing environment, surfacing entry points that could trigger the Sunny agent right where members already were, inside a portal, an app, whatever they were already using. Designing for both web and mobile made this a more complete and holistic solution. Meeting people where they are is a much easier sell to both the client and the member.

Sunny Central
Every client needed a way to see what Sunny was actually doing for their members. Sunny Central is an administrative suite that gives employers and health plans essential metrics around cost steerage, utilization, engagement, and time saved, making the ROI clear and measurable.

Beyond the metrics, clients could configure their own branding, manage user accounts, and access the embed and API tools needed to integrate Sunny into their existing environment. The AI assistant lives in the dashboard too, so admins can ask questions about their data directly rather than trying to interpret charts on their own.
